Cervical Spondylosis

Cervical spondylosis (often called “arthritis of the neck”) is age-related wear and tear affecting the bones, discs, and joints of the cervical spine. Over time, discs can dehydrate and shrink, and the body may form bone spurs. It’s extremely common—and many people have it on imaging with no symptoms.

Symptoms

When cervical spondylosis becomes symptomatic, it may include:

Neck pain and stiffness that can radiate into the shoulders/upper back

Nerve irritation (radiculopathy): tingling, numbness, or weakness into the arms, hands, or fingers

Balance/coordination changes: trouble with walking or fine motor control if the spinal cord is compressed (myelopathy)

Aging: by around age 60, most people show some degenerative changes
